Option for the Poor

Option for the Poor

The Catholic social teaching principle Option for the Poor encourages us to imitate Christ’s love for the poor by working to create a society where the needs of the poor are always considered first.  The option for the poor reminds us of God’s preferential love for the poorest and most vulnerable people. God’s love is universal; he loves the humble.

‘The poor do not need intermediaries, but the personal involvement of all those who hear their cry.’ Pope Francis, Second World Day Of The Poor

The Caritas Ambassadors in St Mark’s House led the Samaritan Christmas Box campaign. They collected a record amount of 115 boxes. The Samaritans said that this was the highest amount of boxes they have received from one school.

The Caritas Ambassadors in St Luke’s House led a collection for Bushey Food Bank. They used the food collected to create Christmas Hampers and presented these to Bushey Food Bank.

The Caritas Ambassadors led a chairty run for Mary’s Meals. They raised an amazing £1,1466.25.

We support many charities over the year. Charities we support every year are – Catholic Children’s Society who provide support to Catholic families, New Hope Trust who support the homeless in Watford and Mary’s Meals who provide lunch for pupils in some of the poorest countries around the world to donate their money to. Two of our pupils made and sold bookmarks outside of school and chose to donate the money they raised to Mary’s Meals.
