Aims & Catholic Ethos

Executive Headteacher’s  and Head of School Welcome

Sacred Heart Catholic Primary School is a thriving community of enthusiastic children, dedicated and passionate staff and a committed and supportive Governing body. At Sacred Heart we pride ourselves on our welcoming Christian ethos, founded on the teachings of Jesus. We aim through our curriculum, our policies and procedures, and through our day to day witness, to uphold the greatest of Christ’s commandments:

‘‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.  And the second is to ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’   (Matthew 22:37-39)

Sacred Heart is a friendly and welcoming school, and we provide a happy and safe environment where all children are supported and encouraged to be the best that they can be. Every child is unique and their individual talents are nurtured and developed through a highly engaging curriculum. Extra-curricular opportunities and learning beyond the classroom enables our children to become confident, independent learners who enjoy taking on responsibility. We have high expectations both in terms of behaviour and academic achievement and foster a belief in all children that they can succeed.

Our mission statement is ‘Loving and learning with Christ as our teacher.’

We live this out in everything we do at school and it is underpinned by our core aims which are for the pupils to be:

Disciples of Christ

Ready to learn

Secondary Ready

To help these three core aims we focus on Catholic Social Teaching, our LEARNER acroymn and British Values.

Catholic Social Teaching

Catholic Social Teaching (CST) is rooted in Scripture, formed by the wisdom of Church leaders, and influenced by grassroots movements. It is our moral compass, guiding us on how to live out our faith in the world.

Our faith calls us to love God and to love our neighbours in every situation, especially our sisters and brothers living in poverty. Following in the footsteps of Christ, we hope to make present in our unjust and broken world, the justice, love and peace of God.

As part of Catholic Social Teaching, we teach our pupils about the importance of serving others and promoting social justice.  By engaging in acts of service and advocating for those in need, pupils develop a sense of worth by understanding their ability to make a positive impact on the world.  Each pupil has a crucial role in our school, holding our faith and social justice close to our hearts. We are activists for social change, which has been advocated by Pope Francis as he invites us all to be Missionary Disciples of Christ.

Each half term we focus on one of the six main principles of Catholic Social Teaching:

Learner Acroymn

We focus on a different letter in our Learner Acroymn every two weeks.

L – Love

E – Engage

A – Articulate & Aspire

N – Nurture

E – Effort

R – Resilience

These are also supportive of the values of the modern British Society in which we live:

Alongside this we also actively promote British values to ensure our pupils are prepared for life in modern Britian. Pupils are encouraged to regard people of all faiths, races and cultures with respect and tolerance and understand that while different people may hold different views about what is ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ all people living in England are subject to it’s law. Every half term we focus on one of the key values below:

    Democracy

    Rule of law

    Individual liberty

    Mutual respect

Tolerance of those of different faiths, races and cultures.
